Jobs and News News From Supported Internship to University: Reece’s Journey into Computing In bemix, we aim to support young people towards their goal of paid employment through our Supported Employment programmes. However, sometimes young people discover new passions along the way, leading them down unexpected and exciting paths. This was the case for Reece, who completed a bemix Preparation for Employment programme in 2022 before moving on to a Supported Internship in 2023. During his time with bemix, Reece’s talent for computing became evident, as he frequently assisted his peers with technical issues. Though he enjoyed his year-long internship with Folkestone Council, Reece decided to dive deeper into his passion for computers, setting his sights on studying Computing and Engineering at university! With the support of Supported Employment Specialists in bemix, Reece successfully applied for his chosen course at the University of Kent, completed his induction, and is now at the beginning of this new journey as a university student! Throughout his Supported Internship, it was clear that Reece had a genuine interest in computing. His dedication to self-learning and enthusiasm for exploring different aspects of computing on his work placement - whether through using new software or helping to rebuild computers did not go unnoticed. His work placement line manager praised his skills, and it soon became apparent that additional qualifications would open even more opportunities for him. We are thrilled for Reece and can’t wait to see where his studies take him! Congratulations, Reece! To find out more about Supported Internships with bemix, click here.
