Shelby’s Supported Internship Takes Shape at Sleepeezee

We are delighted to share the fantastic progress Shelby has made since starting her Supported Internship at Sleepeezee, in Rochester, Kent. Sleepeezee is a renowned British bed manufacturer, producing high-quality mattresses, bed bases, and headboards – and Shelby has already made a positive impact on the team.

Shelby’s internship began with a focus on making headboard buttons, an essential part of the production process. She got off to an amazing start, creating over 1,000 buttons during her second shift alone! Her quick progress caught the attention of her supervisors, and Shelby is now being trained in upholstery, learning how to craft the headboards themselves.

Reflecting on her experience so far, Shelby shared: “I enjoy the work that I am doing and really like the team that I am working with – they’re very friendly and funny!”

Shelby’s supervisor, Ade, shared: “I am pleased with how Shelby has fitted in with the team. She’s doing a great job! She’s helped me make wings for the headboards and is learning how to do different styles of headboards.”

This is a brilliant example of how Supported Employment helps young people explore new skills and grow in confidence, while working towards paid employment. Internships like Shelby’s provide real-world experience in supportive environments, empowering people to develop their strengths.
