In our Be Seen Be Heard project, we learn about creating presentations, public speaking, researching, campaigning and communications. The project runs in Sittingbourne and Dover. One of the project aims is to change people’s minds about learning difficulties and autism. We go into schools and talk about things that have happened to us. We talk about how we want to be treated. We work together as equals and everyone gets the chance to be heard. We help change things for the better in the community.

After the Pandemic, we wanted to change the way we worked in our Sittingbourne group. Instead of designing presentations for schools, we wanted to produce films that could be shared online with a wider audience. We hoped to create films that would raise awareness about topics that matter to people in the project, and society as a whole.

Co-production and growing skills!

In bemix, we co-produce all of our work. It means people with and without autism and/or a learning difficulty/disability share the decision making in all our work.
In Be Seen Be Heard, everyone is involved in the filmmaking process, from start to finish. We work together to choose the topics to focus on and plan how the work will go. People develop a wide range of skills, from research and scriptwriting to setting up the filming environment, adjusting camera settings, and editing the final footage.

"I enjoy researching our chosen topic and writing our own scripts and putting it into our own words."

Stewart, Be Seen Be Heard project member
