Coming Together for Good
Dover Green Day

At bemix, we believe that creating inclusive communities means working together to make a positive difference. That's why we were delighted to bring people together for Dover Green Day, as part of the national Great Big Green Week celebration.

Inspired by this year's theme, "Together for Good," the event brought together local people, community organisations and environmental groups in the heart of Dover, outside our Audiobox shop at the Charlton Centre.

The day was a true example of co-production, with people supported by bemix working alongside staff, volunteers and community partners to help plan, promote and deliver the event.

In the weeks leading up to Dover Green Day, our groups worked together to create colourful banners and window displays, design promotional materials and identify local organisations that share our passion for protecting the environment and improving wellbeing. We were grateful to Dover Big Local for collaborating with us to produce our event artwork in Canva and for generously printing our promotional materials.

Stef from Dover Big Local helped define the content and designed the poster for the event, and commented,

"I worked with the bemix team to define what they needed for the poster and used that information to design the poster for the event, which we turned around in a couple of hours. We love to support local organisations, especially when it's for such a good cause. "

On the day, we welcomed a wide range of local organisations, all sharing ideas about ecology, sustainability, nature and wellbeing. The event created opportunities for people to connect, learn from one another and discover the fantastic work taking place across Dover to create a greener, healthier community.

Visitors also enjoyed live music from Harry Goldfinch, one of our talented bemix performers, whose fantastic set created a brilliant atmosphere throughout the day.

Other members had their talent shine through, and got involved on the day too…

"I loved singing along with Harry, especially Valerie and Sweet Child O' Mine", Lis, bemix Project Lead, Dover

We were delighted to see so many familiar faces supporting the event, including bemix' Trustees, Malcomb Bernard and Bernie Mayall, alongside participants Sammy, Tye, Leila, our Eco Lead, who all played an important part in making the day such a success.

Leila, bemix Eco Lead, said…

“It was a great success, with the Dover Be Creative Group working together to design an eco tree for the shop window and woring with other organisations on the day”

The event also created exciting new partnership opportunities. We enjoyed meeting Transition Dover, and we're looking forward to working together on their upcoming community garden project. We'd also like to thank Sunrise Café, run by Dover Outreach, for generously sharing their space and helping us create such a welcoming community event.

What made Dover Green Day so special was that everyone had a role to play. From designing banners and creating chalk artwork to promoting the event, welcoming visitors and speaking with stallholders, people worked together to make the day a success.

Every contribution mattered, demonstrating the power of co-production in bringing communities together.

Events like Dover Green Day show what can happen when people, organisations and communities collaborate around a shared purpose. They help people to Be Seen by celebrating their skills and talents, Be Heard by allowing everyone to contribute ideas and shape their community, and Belong by creating welcoming spaces where everyone can take part.

Thank you to everyone who supported Dover Green Day and helped make it such a positive celebration of community, sustainability and partnership.

Together, we're helping to build a greener, more inclusive Dover, one where everyone has the opportunity to Be Seen. Be Heard. Belong.
