Jobs and News News Be Seen. Be Heard. Belong. Through the joy of dance Our Be Seen, Be Heard group in Dover recently enjoyed an inspiring introduction to inclusive dance, thanks to a workshop delivered by Confidance at Biggin Hall, Dover. Confidence is a national professional dance organisation that brings people together through creative and inclusive dance experiences. On 12th June, our group took part in an energetic one-hour workshop, where they learnt a dance routine, worked alongside professional dancers and, most importantly, had fun while expressing themselves through movement. The workshop reflected so much of what we believe at bemix. Everyone was encouraged to take part, contribute ideas and create together. Working in small groups, participants co-produced their own dance routines, building confidence, creativity and connections with one another. Our learners had plenty to say about the experience. "I enjoyed it, meeting new people and learning and doing the dance." – Will "I loved the routine, the music and the dancing." – Simon "The Confidance professionals and the Confico group were brilliant! We all loved learning the dance and had a really good giggle. We broke into groups and co-produced our own dance together." - Lis, Dover Groups Lead “It was fun learning new and different signs for Makaton. And it was so much fun to create a shake dance to show what I had for breakfast”, said Sammy The experience didn't end there. After seeing a preview during the workshop, the group returned to Biggin Hall on 19th June to watch “Give Me Space”, a performance created through a co-production process that explored people's thoughts, feelings and experiences. The performance, delivered by the talented Confico dancers, was inspiring and demonstrated how inclusive dance can provide a powerful platform for people to express themselves and tell their stories. For bemix, opportunities like these are about much more than learning new skills. They help people to be seen, by celebrating individual creativity; be heard, by giving everyone the opportunity to express themselves; and belong, by creating welcoming spaces where everyone can participate, contribute and connect. We would like to thank Confidance for creating such an inclusive and welcoming experience that so closely reflects our own values of co-production and inclusion. We're also excited that this partnership continues. Members of our group are looking forward to attending Radical Motion, a Disability Dance Festival taking place at the Quarterhouse in Folkestone between 2–4 July, delivered by Confidance in partnership with Mind the Gap. We can't wait to see what inspires us next! We are so proud of the way that our members embrace new challenges and find such pleasure in seeing them flourish. Congratulations to all involved!
