Jobs and News News Counting Down to Christmas with the Eco Shed Creativity and Christmas seem to go hand in hand, and that’s definitely the case at The Eco Shed this year, where members have banded together to create 5 wooden Christmas villages to count down the days until Christmas. The villages started off as pallets and have been expertly crafted into a series of houses, utilising the range of skills and experience within the group; some members used bandsaws to shape the wood, whilst Elaine, Stewart and Robert preferred hand-saws, before hand-sanding the houses to the perfect shape. This task gave group members the opportunity to develop new skills and grow in confidence when using different tools - David, Terry and Gary all mastered the bandsaw through this project, whilst Stewart reported, “I am the top-quality sanding man. It's awesome!” The houses were then painted in varying designs, depending on the interests of the group, so that the finished products ranged from bold and colourful houses, to smooth and sleek bare wood finishes, to a village resembling Arendelle from Disney’s Frozen! Projects like these aren’t just a good way to learn new skills; the group also enjoyed sharing the creative experience of making the villages together, with one group member explaining that researching Christmas decorations was their favourite part of the task, but that it was also, “Good to be part of a team.” Other group members found the process of creating the houses both calming and exciting. Terry reported that, “Painting the houses slowly rather than rushing makes them a lot better…I’m Excited to see the end result." Cheryl (Project Lead) shared the group’s enthusiasm for this creative project, summarising: “It's great to see all the different stages of development, from the pallet through to the end result. It's amazing what you can do with a pallet, a bit of an imagination and a group of talented woodworkers.” If you’d like to purchase your own handmade Christmas village, or any of the other beautifully handcrafted gifts created by the Eco Shed, they can be found by clicking here to visit our Eco Shed Shop Or contact Cheryl directly: Email: [email protected] Phone: 07966 791 601 Manage Cookie Preferences
