Jobs and News News bemix celebrates 'belonging' in exhibition at The Beaney in Canterbury! We are proud to announce the launch of 'A Sense of Belonging' exhibition at The Beaney in Canterbury! The exhibition showcases a unique collection of animation, film, sound, woodwork, poetry, tapestry, origami, and photography, all reflecting the powerful theme of belonging. Artists in bemix with learning disabilities and/or autism have been working hard to bring their vision to life for the exhibition, which runs for two months. We invite you to join us and consider how belonging shapes our identities, influences our communities, and celebrates our shared experiences! Steve Perry, Director of Arts and Social Enterprise in bemix, explains: “The theme of belonging reflects who we are, what we do, and the communities we are part of. At bemix, we believe everyone should have an equal place and voice in society, with the opportunity to be seen, heard, and truly belong.” Carmen Cassidy, an artist in bemix, adds: “Being part of bemix gives me the chance to grow. It’s important to be part of something I love. I want people with learning disabilities and autistic people to be seen, heard, and to belong in our community. This exhibition is a chance to show others what we can achieve and how creative we are.” Visitors are already praising the exhibition! “As a person with autism, it was great to see this exhibition. A strong, positive group of people showing their skills—people who are incredibly gifted with artworks, including drawings, paintings, sculptures, and objects as a whole composition. I loved watching the film and when someone said belonging made them feel free. That is important to me too. Brilliant exhibition.” - Thomas, exhibition visitor. “I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the incredible displays at the bemix exhibition. I loved seeing how people expressed themselves individually, yet brought their art together in a powerful, collaborative effort to convey the meaningful theme of ‘belonging.’ The exhibition beautifully displayed people coming together, supporting one another, and creating inspiring and creative designs for everyone to enjoy. It was truly a wonderful experience.” - Tina, exhibition visitor. Supported by a Kent County Council Combined Members Grant through local councillor Alister Brady. 'A Sense of Belonging' is open in The Front Room at The Beaney until Sunday, January 5. Entry is free.
