Leila Ayoub has been working in the Music and Media groups in bemix. As an animal lover and environmentalist, Leila has been using her time in the Media group to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic in the ocean. She recently made a radio show which aired on Dover Community Radio.

Leila tells us about her work.

I am part of the Music Course in Dover. I completed a Level 1 Music Course and wanted to stay on and start a new project. We have a show called Audiobox that is aired on a Sunday with Dover Community Radio. I started to be part of the show. My supporter, Lis, and I are scuba divers and we don’t like what is going on with the amount of rubbish and plastic polluting our seas and oceans. The animals can eat it and be hurt or die. If we eat fish we are also eating the plastic. We feel passionately about this and we want to find a way to help to make changes.

I had been watching Blue Planet and reading a lot about the problems in the sea.

Lis suggested that I make a radio show about the plastic in the ocean. So I did loads of research. I found it hard to make. It took me almost a year. I learnt so much. I learnt how to download music. I wrote my own script and recorded it. Then I learnt how to make the show in our Dover studio. I really enjoyed researching for it. It took me a long time to write the show so that the listeners would understand what I wanted to say. I am really proud of my work.
