What does a Supported Employment Work/Job Coach role entail?

We are striving to raise the aspirations of young people with learning difficulties or autism, together with their families and carers, demonstrating that work is possible and rewarding. A supported internship is about young people with a learning difficulty and/or autism achieving high quality paid work that lasts. We call it a supported internship as we support the young person throughout the internship by providing a Work Coach. As the young person's Work Coach you will work alongside them in their work placement supporting them and their employer to ensure both get the most out of the placement.

We need people who are:

  • Great organisers and problem-solvers
  • Able to connect well with young people and employers
  • Passionate about nurturing the potential of young people
  • with learning difficulties and/or autism
  • Calm, confident and adaptable
  •  Committed and reliable
  • You must be able to draw on your own skills and ability to manage fluctuating emotional support needs of the young person, to maintain a calm, supportive learning and work environment.

Experience of working as a Work/Job Coach and with young people with a learning difficulty and/or autism is desirable, but not essential.
