I have thirty years’ experience of working in the corporate, charity, co-operative and education sectors.

After starting my full-time working life as an administrator for a big Australian life assurance company next to St. Paul’s Cathedral (an exciting location to work at as a 20 year old!), I moved to a role in the company’s training department where I designed and delivered business administration and customer care training. A development move to HR confirmed that my future lay in the people services business!

Following lengthy stints at a national childcare charity (as a project manager and then Membership Manager) and the Co-operative Group (where I organised a range of events and conferences aimed at promoting the Co-op’s ethical values & principles), I joined Mid Kent College. For the next ten years, I worked as a Work Placement Co-ordinator in the College’s Supported Learning Department, where I organised placements and conducted work-based assessments for students with a range of learning disabilities or autism. The work could be rewarding and challenging but cuts in education funding and the lack of a personalised approach prompted a search for something different.

In August 2014 I qualified as a Clinical Hypnotherapist, running and marketing my own part-time hypnotherapy practice for the next 18 months. I was trained using a person-centred model, which helped cement the importance of empowering individuals to take responsibility for making the important changes in their lives.

After a short stint as an Area Fundraiser for a hospice, I joined bemix (formerly Skillnet Group) in September 2016.

As a Life Choices supporter, I work with a number of clients who are on the Autistic Spectrum. My clients are based in North West Kent, including Dartford, Gravesend and Sevenoaks. Liaising with case managers from Kent County Council’s Autistic Spectrum Conditions Team, I work with my clients to agree a flexible personal development plan that provides them with opportunities to pursue their own life goals. The work is highly person-centred, very flexible and relies on the momentum created by building rapport and a great relationship during weekly support sessions.

I have a passion for helping people to develop their skills and experience through mentoring, coaching and engagement in the wider society. I am so pleased to be working for bemix (formerly Skillnet Group). As an organisation, it fits perfectly with my own values and I get a tremendous sense of satisfaction from my work. I love working with people to help develop and support their independence and greater interaction with society: it’s immensely rewarding work.

I live near Brands Hatch with my partner and have a son who is currently studying Politics at Portsmouth University. In my spare time, I enjoy films, music, travel, current affairs and cycling. I am a co-founder and organiser of Eltham Velo Cycling Club in South East London.
